Stay Safe This Holiday Season With Sonia’s Safety Tips

December is almost here and with it comes one of the biggest holidays of the year…Christmas! I think it’s fair to say that most homeowners agree: a display of sparkling lights on a property looks absolutely beautiful! As you know, I care deeply about my clients —even after they’ve purchased a home for sale.

Holiday Safety Tips

So, before you Deck The Halls and pour the Egg Nog, keep these basic Holiday safety tips in mind:

  1. Check decorations for damage. Before you put up some electrical holiday decorations, make sure the cables and sockets aren’t cracked or damaged.
  2. Don’t overload your outlets. This safety tip is so easy to overlook, but the rule of thumb is, “don’t plug in more than one high-wattage appliance to each outlet.”
  3. Look but don’t touch. Bright, blinking Christmas tree lights can be very tempting to pets and even little ones. Establish a “no-touch” rule for your tree and other decorations. Don’t leave pets such as cats unattended around your Christmas tree or they may see it as a climbing opportunity!
  4. Try battery-operated candles. Battery-operated candles are non-combustible, and require less maintenance. Unlike traditional candles, you can leave these unattended and place them near greenery.
  5. Kitchen Safety. Whether you’re cooking a large Christmas meal or simply baking Holiday treats, remember not to leave unattended items on the stove and to watch your children closely when they’re in the kitchen. Before cooking for your special guests, ask them if they have food allergies or  food preferences.

While some Sherwood Park homeowners or Edmonton homeowners are happy with placing white lights along their window edges, other property owners go the distance— placing brightly-lit snowmen, candy canes, and even an electrical Santa that waves at a passerby. No matter the type of Holiday decorations you choose, remember to put safety first!

Sell your home in the Winter with Sonia Tarabay!

  • Remember Winter Curb Appeal. As you prepare for a showing, turn on all the lights of your home. That way, your home will appear more welcoming to visitors who drive up. You can also make the most of the festive season by placing a few white lights on your home. Don’t forget to shovel the driveway, sidewalk, and steps leading up to your home.
  • A rug for winter boots and place for winter mitts. Clear your front closet and have plenty of hangers available for your guests to hang up their coats. If you really want to kick it up a notch then place a shoe rack and rug at the front entrance for guest to place their boots. Have slippers for them available and you’re golden!
  • Cultivate fresh air, even if you can’t open the window. Homes can get stuffy in the wintertime, I blame the lack of air circulation. But don’t let that let you down, purchase a home fragrance (not too strong) and let it spread throughout your home. (Just like holiday cheer!)

The best part about selling in the winter is that the people are home shopping are typically more serious. Give me a call for a Free Edmonton Home Evaluation and lets sell your Edmonton or Sherwood Park Home!

If you’ve decided to list your home with me, you’re in for a real treat! I offer all my clients a solid  Marketing Plan based on my reputable 5 star service. Below are some quick and easy to-do tips to help you get your home in ready to sell conditions.

Home staging

Stage your home with Sonia!

  1. A clean home is a SOLD home. Before you show your home to potential buyers you need to clean it from top to bottom. Now I don’t just mean a light weekly cleaning, I’m talking baseboards, chandeliers, windowsills, and even steam cleaning the carpet. Be sure to also remove any lingering pet odours or food odours.
  2. Don’t clutter your guests with clutter. Flat surfaces in your home, chairs, and hallways are usually subject to clutter. It’s normal for us to place random pieces of paper, clothing, and miscellaneous items down on these areas. However, in order to properly stage a home, these areas of your property must be free of any debris.
  3. Nothing beats fresh air and bright lighting. If feasible, crack open the window to get some fresh air circulating throughout your home. Pull your curtains back and let the sun’s rays shine inside, it will do wonders to any room in your home!
  4. Depersonalize. This little tip can be the most difficult thing for any homeowner to do, and yet it is so effective. If I had to depersonalize my office and remove all the leopard printed items from it, I would struggle to do so! But that’s exactly what is necessary in order for you to sell your home. You need to remove any photos, awards or achievements, sports paraphernalia, and articles of clothing from your home.

There are numerous aspects and techniques when staging a home, and I truly enjoy helping my clients prepare for the selling and showing process. If you’re interested in placing your home on the market give me call today! Together we can find the right buyer and sell your home for top dollar.

Winter Preparation Tips For Your Home

Is Your Home Ready For The Cold?

Well it appears that we had our first snowfalls this week. Although it wasn’t as bad as I feared, it was certainly a good reminder to get your home ready for the cold months ahead. Follow my Winter Preparation Tips and your winter experience can be stress-free!

Safety First. Is your family prepared in the event of an emergency? Consider purchasing an Emergency Kit, or making one yourself. Some handy things to put in an Emergency Kit are: candles, matches, or a lighter (in case of a power outage), extra water bottles and non-perishable food items, blankets and a First Aid Kit.

Fire Prevention. Inspect your home’s smoke detectors and change the batteries as needed, keep your power equipment away from Or water heaters and wiring in the basement, before using your fireplace make sure the chimney and vents are clean and in good repair.

Reverse Your Ceiling Fans. This power tip is great for rooms that have high ceilings. By reversing your ceiling fans, warm air that rises will be pushed down into the room from the ceiling. If your fan has a reverse switch turn it on so your fan’s blades run clockwise.

Check Your Home’s Exterior. Clean your home’s gutters and remove any leaves or debris to make sure the snow can properly drain from your roof. Speaking of which, it’s advised that you also check your roof’s shingles. Any rotting shingles have to be replaced before the first nasty snowfall.

Don’t forget to double check your home’s heating system! You made a great investment by purchasing your real estate property. So, you should protect your investment. Taking care of your home no matter the season can save you costly repairs and unwanted headaches. Now if only we could do something to prepare ourselves for the -35 degree weather!!
